Pink-eye passports...

Because I have conjunctivitis, I was reminded of when I had conjunctivitis the week we went to Chicago to get new passports...

And my oh-so-lovely passport photo did not prevent me from re-entering Australia - phew! When we returned, we did our immigration thing with a Customs Officer at a desk marked: Australian Families (or similar). As a result, I have no idea how my passport would affect the performance of the face recognition at the automated Customs (or whatever it's called). From experience, it's no big deal - my fringe was registered as a scar or similar and when the machine doing the face recognition thing didn't like what it was processing, the Customs Officer who I saw wasn't worried and was happy to stamp my passport when I asked.

But, presumably, I'll be travelling with Michael and Jimmy for the next 9 years, if we travel outside of Australia in that time, so the awful photo on my passport will not read by a machine - it will be seen by people.

a portrait of my son, once a week, every week in 2015

Jimmy: Little boy, big park, big city...

While in Chicago, Michael and Uncle Jim took Jimmy to Millennium Park and I stayed in our hotel nursing some awful conjunctivitis. The three of them had a great time and almost had the park to themselves because of the wet weather. Jimmy didn't mind that the park was a little wet - he had a awesome time.

Thanks to Uncle Jim for taking this beautiful photo. And thank you Michael for contributing many other beautiful photos of our little man over the year.

I'm still in disbelief that today is the last day of the year... Jodi, the lovely lady who writes Practicing Simplicity and the woman behind The 52 Project, is wrapping up the project and is using other means of documenting her children. I am going to continue posting a weekly photo of Jimmy, because I like the format and simplicity of one (or two) photos once a week, especially as it allows family and friends overseas and home back in Australia to see this little guy is growing up.

See you in the new year!

UPDATED: Originally I gave photo credit to Michael, but the photo was taken by our friend James M., who we call Uncle Jim. The credit has been corrected.

Jimmy: Posing with penguins...

So, we may have been in Chicago recently, which goes a little way in explaining the "radio silence" here of late. And we may have gone to the Lincoln Park Zoo to see the Christmas lights...

More on the trip later, but Jimmy and Daddy can be seen here, posing in front of some illuminated penguins. It was difficult to get a good light balance because of how bright the penguins were (or I need to get better at photography...). I would like to point out that it was about 5 pm when I took these photos, no sunlight, the Zoo was crowded, and I can't remember if Jimmy is "smiling" or making his scary face... We enjoyed the Zoo.
